Summary

Hame is an Android app for keeping the costs of your home at your fingertips. I wanted one place where I could open the app and understand what the house costs, what I am paying for and when I may need to do something about it.

That might mean checking when a fixed mortgage rate ends, seeing what the house is expected to cost in a particular month, or understanding the difference between paying council tax over ten months and spreading it across twelve. It also gives each cost a history, so changes to a mortgage or broadband bill do not disappear into old statements and provider accounts.

The main view is designed to answer those questions at a glance. Mortgage, council tax and broadband information sits together, with the useful figures and dates brought to the surface. The animation is deliberately subtle, so the app feels alive without getting in the way.

The name and visual style have Scottish influences, including colours drawn from harled walls, slate roofs and heather. The application itself is for households across the United Kingdom: England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Privacy was part of the design from the beginning. Hame has no adverts or behavioural analytics, supports two-step login and lets people delete their account from the app.

What’s next

Hame is coming soon. I am working through it release by release and will keep adding support for more utilities, starting with the ones that give people the most value when tracked.

Further down the line, I would like Hame to help find better deals too. If a broadband contract is nearly over, for example, it could let you know that another provider is offering more speed for less money. The first priority is making the UK experience useful and dependable, with support for other countries as a much longer-term possibility.
